For this year, Pantone has voted … the year 2018 will be in purple! Called “Ultra Violet”, Pantone defines this color as “a creative inspiration […] full of inventiveness and open to the imagination”. Ultra Violet paves the way for “the exploration of new technologies and the big galaxy”, according to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute. “It’s the most complex color because it needs two diametrically opposite shades: blue and red, and that bring them together to create something new,” she continues. For 2018, Pantone imagined a color “that inspires hope and exaltation”. The color giant explains in its article that Ultra Violet represents “the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what awaits us, the discoveries to come”.
Inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.

Finally, Pantone links Ultra Violet to music: “Enigmatic purple has long been the symbol of counter-culture, nonconformism and artistic brilliance.” The musical icons like Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix, have brought nuances of Ultra Violet to the forefront of Western Pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. ” Their statement refers precisely to the color created in tribute to Prince and whose color is inspired by his piano.
